Bashir Ahmad Taunts Ganduje: Take Your Old Naira Notes To CBN If Legitimate

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communication, Malam Bashir Ahmad has dared Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state to take his old naira notes to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) if they are legitimate.

Ahmad was replying to Ganduje who faulted the naira redesign policy and described it as a move to scuttle democracy and sabotage the forthcoming general elections.

Ganduje also accused Buhari of introducing the policy at the eve of elections, saying it should have been done in the past seven years or after the election.

However, in a reply to Ganduje and others, Ahmad said they should stop making noise and take their old naira notes to the CBN.

He said, “Many people thought that the people talking about the policy is for the right of the masses, not knowing that they are doing it for themselves. They stocked huge amount of money and they are afraid of taking it to the CBN because EFCC and NFIU (Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit) are watching them.

He, however, replied Ganduje though jokingly, saying, “Baba Dan Audu, President Baba Buhari has ordered that you should take your money to CBN. If EFCC and NFIU certified that they are legitimate, you will receive alert.”

On Ganduje’s allegations that Buhari has scuttled the democracy, Bashir Ahmad said, “I didn’t know that the democracy has decayed until when I contested for elections in Kano, and during the primaries, they rigged the election on the ground that I am a politician from Abuja.”

INEC Will Release Total Number Of Registered Voters Soon — Oyo REC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Dr. Adeniran Tella, has hinted voters in the state that the commission will soon come up with the total number of registered voters before the forthcoming general elections.

He gave the hint yesterday, during a press briefing at the commission’s office, Agodi, Ibadan.

The REC noted also that the migration of some voters from the most populated to the less populated polling units in the state is to prevent the congestion that usually makes voting cumbersome on election day.

Looking back, facing forward as Nigeria decides
He stated that the commission would soon come up with an update on the total number of registered voters for the coming elections, “including the total number of collected and uncollected PVCs in the state.”

Tella implored the people of the state to cooperate with the commission to ensure hitch free, credible and inclusive general elections in the state.

The REC, while briefing newsmen on the activities of the commission in the state as regards the redistribution of some of the voters to new polling units, recalled that the commission in 2021, successfully expanded voter access to polling units.

He said: “From the initial number of 4,783 by converting the then 1,607 voting points into full fledged polling units that now make the total number of 6,390 Polling Units in the state.”

“The commission, in exercising its powers under Section 40(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022 has allotted voters from overcrowded polling units within the same axis to promote a more pleasant and stress free voting experience on election day.”

“The exercise requires that redistribution of voters to new polling units has been done in proximate locations.”

“In other words, the commission has moved some voters from the populated to the less populated polling units.”

“This is to make up to the threshold of 750 voters per polling unit putting into consideration their proximity from one another on election day.”

Tella further explained that the polling units with migrated voters have already been pasted in all the affected 28 Local Government Areas of the State, comprising 815 polling units, “to see and at the same time to be well informed ahead of polls.”

He said the exercise which was done in consultation with all the stakeholders in the electioneering process, would allow for transparency in the electoral process ahead of the forthcoming elections.

He added that eligible voters could as well visit the INEC voters’ verification system on www.cvr.inecnigeria.org/vvs or voters.inecnigeria.org to check their names on the register of voters.

The REC said eligible voters could, at the same time, confirm the location of their polling units, where they will vote on election day.

Tella used the opportunity of the briefing to reiterate that, the use of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter’s accreditation and verification on election day has come to stay.

He further stated that the use of INEC Result Viewing Portal (IRev) to upload Polling Units results using www.inecelectionresults.ng to view the uploaded election results has become part of the new technology of the commission.

He, however, urged all eligible voters to come out to vote on election day with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

Tinubu Will Win Highest Votes, Might Have Run-Off With Obi - SBM Intelligence

For the first time since the 1960s, there are 3 competitive political blocs largely along the old regional divides.

Hence the latest survey, which was commissioned by @EiENigeria and conducted by @sbmintelligence, did not provide us with a clear front-runner.

The first 2023 election survey conducted by SBM was published in July 2022 and showed that only 41% of registered voters had collected their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs). (IMAGE 1)

This assumption of low turnout fed into our December 2022 projections, based on a 7,000-respondent survey. (Image 2)

The assumption of low turnout changed when, in January 2023, our 6,500-respondent survey on PVC collection showed a remarkable increase in PVC collection - 97%.

We believe that the surge in voter awareness done by
@inecnigeria and CSOs like Enough is Enough (EiE), through their #RSVP Campaign, have driven voter interest and bucked the low turnout trend in #Nigeria's elections.

Many respondents were clear about whom they felt would win the presidential contest in their state but were not straightforward about their candidate preferences. Furthermore, many registered voters told us that ethnicity and religion would play an important part in their choice.

This runs contrary to recent commentary, which suggests that #NigeriaDecides2023 will be #Nigeria’s first post-modern election, where substantial issues will determine voter choice.

The respondents also said that they expect vote buying despite recent technological and legislative changes to curb that. While an overwhelming majority of respondents claim that they won’t sell their vote, more than a third have experienced vote buying in the past.

The data suggest that @PeterObi and @Atiku could garner enough votes over a sufficient number of states across four of the country’s six geopolitical zones to meet the constitutional requirement of scoring 25% in at least 24 states. (Image 3 and 4)
