Rivers: An Invitation For War, Niger Delta Group Reacts To Court Verdicts

The Pan Niger Delta Youth Employment Forum (PANDYEF) has strongly condemned the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming the reinstatement of 27 lawmakers as valid members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The group warned that Nigerians should hold the judiciary accountable for any breakdown of law and order in the state.

In a statement released on Saturday by its spokesperson, Mazi Chika Art Adiele, and made available to journalists in Awka, PANDYEF alleged that the Supreme Court’s decision amounts to economic sabotage against the people of Rivers State.

The group argued that the verdict threatens the peace and sustainable development fostered by Governor Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Joseph Fubara.

Expressing disappointment, the statement read: “It is an invitation for war and against equity, justice and fair play.

“We, equally condemn the order nullifying the Local Government Election, as reckless and vindictive.

“Unfortunately, the Justices of the Supreme Court, positioned themselves as a party to the suite rather than impartial arbiter of justice.

It must be noted that the principle of democracy is surely rooted on sound constitutional pronouncement with a view to establishing justice.

“Therefore any attempt by the enemies of Rivers people to seize power by judicial fiat will be resisted by the Niger Delta Youths.

“We cannot be cowed neither shall we lay in surrender at the alter of political manipulations of rascals.

“We reiterate boldly, once again, that anyone, no matter how highly placed will face fierce resistance by the majority of Rivers people, the statement concluded.
