Garri goes from N200 to N100: Ekiti market woman leader forces down prices of foodstuffs in the state

A taskforce led by the President of the Market Women Association, Chief Omowaye Oso, yesterday stormed two major markets in Ekiti state, to force the reduction in the prices of food stuff in the state.

Oso and her team stormed the market after the market women increased the prices of their commodities by 100% blaming it on high dollar rate. Speaking to newsmen after the forceful reduction, Oso said;

“Both the Ewi of Ado Ekiti and the state government are concerned about the exorbitant prices of goods and services in the town. The cost of goods, especially foodstuff, is too high in Ado Ekiti, whereas, as the state capital, prices of goods and services should be the cheapest here. The market men and women should have mercy on the poor because things are too expensive here, unlike other towns and villages in Ekiti State. It is very unfortunate that market women in other communities don’t want to sell at their places anymore; they now bring their wares to Ado, believing they will sell at twice the price of what they sell in their communities. As the Iyaloja, one of my responsibilities is to ensure price control of goods and today’s exercise shall be a continuous one and shall be repeated in all markets in Ado. It is unfortunate that 20 liters of palm oil which sells at N14,000 in Ikole is being sold at N22,000 in Ado, but we have sold it at N15,000. Ado is now developing a bad reputation for high prices of goods and services, but we will not allow this to continue. The Kabiyesi has said he does not want hardship for the people of Ado. We will continue to carry out our raids until our market women comply and anyone who cannot comply, must look elsewhere to sell her wares. If you can’t sell your palm oil at lower prices, don’t bring it down to Ado again,” she said. A measure of garri which used to sell for N200 was reduced to N100. A 20-liter container of palm oil which sold at N22,000 was reduced to N15,000, while a measure of local rice, which initially sold at N500 was reduced to N400.

Drama As Parishioners Padlock Bishop, Others Inside Church Over Alleged Financial Impropriety

The Cathedral Church of Saint Luke, Anglican Diocese, Sapele, Delta State, has been dismembered by a crisis between worshippers and the presiding Bishop, Rt. Rev B. A. Erifeta, JP. Since July 2015, some worshippers, who are at loggerheads with the bishop over alleged financial impropriety, high handedness and maladministration, have refused to walk the sanctuary to reverence God, preferring to worship the Almighty in the open air, along Boyo Road in the town
The hostilities degenerated to the extent that the violent congregation locked the bishop, other members of the clergy and youths in the cathedral during a service, last year that it took the breaking of the keys of the burglary proof and gate for them to get out.
Saint Luke Cathedral, Sapele, is perhaps the only Anglican Church in the state where the members worship God in such a manner and even unbelievers are shocked as to why children of God would not bury the hatchet. The dispute erupted several years ago and efforts to resolve the conflict amicably have hit the wall. Primate, concerned bishops wade in Recently, the Bishops of Warri diocese, Rt Rev, Christian E. Ide, Oleh diocese, Rt Rev U Aruakpor and Erifeta himself went on a troubleshooting mission to notable members of the diocese, including Sir Newton Ejiro Omoko (JP), Chief E.K. Gbragada, Chief Omatseye One of Warri Kingdom, Sir, Simon Agbaroli and Chief J.I. Efemini a prominent Chief in Idjerhe Kingdom to let bygones by bygones, but there was no headway.
A source, however, said the matter was now at the table of the Primate of the Anglican diocese, who summoned the parties for a meeting, last Wednesday, but it was aborted because of his engagement. He added: “The primate will reschedule the meeting for another day if it has not been done already.” Our complaint against Erifeta – Aggrieved worshipers The parishioners submitted a 67-point allegation against their bishop ranging from financial impropriety to stealing and immoral activities. A member of the Saint Luke Cathedral, Sapele, who accused Erifeta and his supporters of standing the truth on the head, told NDV:
“The first sign of trouble was in April 2014 when he (Erifeta) allegedly disbanded the over 100-member choir of the church. Some elders of the church, some between the ages of 70-90 years went to beg him and he practically chased them out of his office, vowing to set up his own choir.
“As we speak, the building (church) has been abandoned and taken over by weeds while inside the auditorium is dirty, a sign of not being used, over a long while. We worship outside, along Boyo road, near the cathedral. You can see that we have erected canopies to conduct their services every Sunday. “Since we started worshiping outside, we have witnessed a lot of revival as many of those who left the cathedral on account of Bishop Blessing Erifeta’s alleged unbearable attitude have returned with several positive testimonies.”
He added: “You asked why we worship outdoors, the outside worship is to protest the continued stay of the bishop. Some of the allegations against the bishop among others were that he denigrated the church when he turned his staff upside down in the altar and placed curses on members of the church, mismanagement of church funds, abuse of elders of the church and all that.
Crumbling pulpit
“Is it not strange that the pulpit of the church collapsed when the bishop was having bible study with his clergy on 17th Feb 2015, and recently the pulpit of Our Redeemer Anglican Church Sapele, crashed when the bishop was studying with his priests on 27th September 2016? He however promised to fix it,” he said.
He asserted: “Regrettably, the bishop failed to get read the handwriting on the wall even after one of the priests, Venerable O.E Okpara, who preached in the cathedral using the platform of the pulpit after it was repaired, died weeks later.”
His words: “After this incidence, the members of the church wrote a petition to the primate elucidating on the above allegations against the bishop. Members have expressed grave concern and dismay on the insincerity of the church authority to uphold the truth. The matter has been to the domain of traditional rulers in the area, Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Zone 5, Benin City, court, etc. Supposed prejudice
“The people perceive injustice by the church authorities and this has made the resolution difficult. It was reported that the panels set up by the church authority was skewed to give the bishop an advantage and the people rejected them, insisting that there must be fairness,” he said.
Contrary to the stand of the spokesperson of the church, he said: “All the Anglican churches in Sapele and environs are unanimous on the bishop’s removal as they have stopped remitting money to the diocese until Bishop Erifeta is removed. Currently, all the churches are witnessing massive development since the stoppage of assessment.”

Jose Mourinho Facing Two Match Ban After Getting Sent Off In 1-1 Draw Against West Ham

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, is likely to get another ban from the Football Association, after he was sent to the stands for reacting furiously to a yellow card shown to Paul Pogba, during their 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday.
The Portuguese angrily kicked a water bottle, after Pogba was booked for diving in the first half and referee Jonathan Moss sent him to the stands.
It is the second time this season that Mourinho has been sent to the stands at Old Trafford. He was also dismissed during last month’s 0-0 draw with Burnley. That time, it was for confronting referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time.
Mourinho was given a one-match touchline ban from the FA for his behaviour, after he accepted an improper conduct charge.
The former Chelsea boss was also fined £50,000 earlier this season for media comments he made about referee Anthony Taylor before United’s game at Liverpool.

Tension As MMM Participant Commits Suicide In Nsukka

The body of a final year student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has been found dangling from a rope in his room. The deceased left a note behind where he apologised to his family, according to accounts by a source close to the family. The university authorities have confirmed the incident, but said the family has not officially informed the institution.
A final year student of agricultural engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who is also reported to be a participant of the Mavrodi Mondial Movement investment scheme (MMM), has committed suicide.
Premium Times reports the student, identified as Tobechukwu Okeke was found on Sunday morning, November 27, dangling from a rope in his room at Odenigwe, a community in Nsukka, Enugu state.
The deceased was said to have left a note behind where he apologised to his family, according to accounts by a neighbor close to the family.
The contents of the note read:
“Mother, Father, brother, I’m sorry. Ify, may your children never suffer. Uncle Mathias, you gave me all. I am sorry. Death calls. Linguistic department, I am sorry. Okeke Tobechukwu S. 2012/185649,” the neighbour, who did not want to be named, quoted
Though the cause of Mr. Okeke’s death is yet to be ascertained, some of his neighbours suggested that he was in debt, some said he was tired of schooling, others attributed his suicide to the loss of money in a network business he invested into.
The deceased’s last Facebook posts showed he had been involved in the controversial MMM scheme as he used his account to advertise the scheme.
His last post, in September, read:
“MMM is enriching lives of millions of Nigerians everyday. If you care to join or you have any questions please send me a message or comment below.”
One of the deceased’s colleagues, who also did not want to be named, said he was given an electrical wiring job to do at the department of linguistics in the university, because of his expertise in electrical works.
“I saw him this (Sunday) morning, he seemed to have a problem which he needed money to solve,” the colleague added.
The university authorities have also confirmed the incident, but said the family had not officially informed the institution.
Uju Umo, the university’s dean of student affairs said: “I travelled for a burial last weekend and yesterday I got a text message saying a student had committed suicide.”
“It happened at Odenigwe, one of the host communities outside the school and I was told he left a suicide note apologising to his fellow gamblers.”
Similarly, Chukwu Emmanuel, the university’s student union president, also confirmed the incident, and said the matter was being investigated.
“There’s no concrete details for now,” he added.
People close to the deceased described him as a comedian who always used jokes to awake sleeping students during night classes.
“He used to go around to classes at night to crack jokes and encourage students to forget their worries and focus,” a friend told Premium Times.

BREAKING!! Zimbabwean First Lady Announces Herself As New President, To Take Over From Husband!

Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe has declared herself the new president that would take over when Robert Mugabe finally steps down. Grace Mugabe said to the ruling Zanu-PF party women’s league that she is already the president, as she has made plans and arrangement with President Robert Mugabe”.
Grace’s announcement comes after the President announced that he is working towards his retirement as the president.
Mugabe made the shocking announcement to veterans, who came to solidify their support for him. There, he admitted that Zimbabwe is apparently in a financial crisis – which spells doom for the citizens and the country at large.
According to reports, Mashonaland West Zanu-PF women’s league chairperson Angeline Muchemeyi said Grace, who has been the Zanu-PF women’s league secretary since 2014, told them that there was no point for her fighting to be vice president, a lesser position, when she was already running State affairs.
“The First Lady said ‘I’m the wife of the president, I’m the president already … I plan and do everything with the president, what more do I want, for now the position of the women boss is enough,” Muchemeyi was quoted as saying. Zimbabwe’s deputy president, however, noted that the first lady’s ambition to lead the country after her husband’s departure, had been “put on hold” after the Mashonaland West Zanu-PF women’s league said the issue of quota system in the presidium should be avoided.
Grace’s new announcement also raised concern that she still influences the president’s decisions, especially in policies that affect the country.
Months back, Mugabe himself admitted to being ‘told what to do’ by Grace who forced him to prematurely end his speech during the Zanu PF National Conference in Victoria Falls last year.
“Mukadzi uyu akutondinyorera kuti ndavakutaurisa (she is writing to me, saying “I’m talking to much). Ndozvandinoitwa kumba (this is what she does at home). Saka ndoteerera (So I listen),” Mugabe ashamedly admitted to his wife’s rule. Read Also: Zimbabwe Is Dead-broke But Is Losing $1 Billion To Corruption Every Year Mashonaland West women’s league chairperson, Angeline Muchemeyi told a gathering over the weekend that Grace was already running State affairs and would not fight for lesser positions like the vice president’s post.
“Grace told an executive meeting that she is ‘already the President’ and would not want to be appointed VP, as it was a lower post,” she said, reiterating that Grace Mugabe is making serious plans to take over as soon as Mugabe steps down.

REASONS WHY MMM CANNOT CRASH

An insider has given compelling reasons why the money ponzi scheme ‘MMM’ will not crash in Nigeria.
In this article, a member of MMM Nigeria has given 10 reasons why the money ponzi scheme will not crash in Nigeria.
1. MMM is an innovative and experimental platform where people donate money directly to each other.
2. There are no investors and no investments in MMM. Money is not invested in any asset. Money is donated to the other person. As MMM members donate money, there are no guarantees that people will be donated back. Everything depends on the members themselves: they develop the community making it sustainable and creating a permanent process of the exchange of donations.
3. MMM members are rewarded with Mavro after they donate help to other members of the Community.
4. 30% per month is not an interest rate, but an expected growth rate of Mavro. Growth rate of Mavro and its amount can be adjusted at any moment for the benefit of the community.
5. Mavro is like scores or grades in colleges. Where do grades come from? Is it possible for grades to be out of stock? Grades are taken from nowhere. Students get grades according to their performance. This is the same with Mavros. Mavro is an evaluation of the contribution made by a participant for the development of the Community.
6. MMM is a self-adjusting Community. The algorithms of matching senders and receivers and algorithms of Mavro reward constantly get adjusted and improved.
7. MMM cannot crash because it cannot pay its members. This is due to the fact that MMM is not a corporation involved in financial transactions, MMM just connects senders and receivers.
8. The main factor in the MMM Community is its members’ behaviour. The aim of MMM is not to make people rich, but to change their mindset, to encourage people to share what they have with others. Members should not treat MMM as a money making scheme.
9. MMM members can choose the time when they provide and get help. Usually members follow the principle: donate when you have spare money and ask for money when you need to buy something for your family. MMM wants to increase the velocity of money. No need to keep money: share it with others.
10. MMM wants to emphasise the importance of work and productive labour. You should work not because you get paid for that (working just for money is something like selling your soul or body). People should work consciously and deliberately for their personal and public benefit.

Nigerian Drugs Convict, Chijioke Obioha Finally Executed In Singapore

A Nigerian, Chijioke Stephen Obioha who was arrested for smuggling more than 2kg of cannabis into Singapore was executed by hanging today, Friday November 18.
A member of the Singapore Anti-Death Penalty Campaign group, Mr. Ravi who was on the case revealed this on his Facebook page.
He wrote:
“This morning, at 6am, the execution of Chijioke Stephen Obioha took place. I am not even sure if his family from Nigeria were able to attend. Soon it will be all forgotten together with Chijioke’s name, but for the many of us who fight and campaign to eradicate this barbaric practice of death by hanging, and for those of us who challenge the mandatory death penalty for drug trafficking in Singapore, our work will go on. And it must.”
Ravi later said he is making arrangements for a proper burial for the deceased.
“I’m currently arranging with the Roman Catholic Prison Ministry ( RCPM) to claim the body of Chijioke from the Singapore Prisons Service for a proper funeral in accordance with his religious beliefs. The funeral will take place either today or tomorrow depending on how soon the SPS could release the body. Will keep you posted,” he wrote.
Chijoke Stephan Obioha was a Nigerian graduate of Uniben, who went to Singapore for a football trial and was first arrested in 2007 and sentenced to death in 2008.
The Singapore Court of Appeal had dismissed an appeal filed against his death sentence

See Painful Photo Of An Old University Of Ibadan Meal Voucher [See Photo]

This was back in the days when a meal cost as low as fifty kobo (50k). Meals in Nigerian universities were heavily subsidised by the government, so students, both rich and poor had access to at least one free meal daily.
In addition, the students were also given fruit and vegetables to go with the meal. Balanced diet and all that.Seeing this is very painful. What happened to this great country?

PDP TELLS BUHARI

Two members of the Board of Trustees, Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Ebenezer Babatope and Chief Shuaib Oyedokun, have condemned President Muhammadu Buhari‘s recent lamentation that corrupt individuals in the country are waging a war against his anti corruption war.
The PDP trustee members on Thursday, said that Buhari’s anti-corruption cannot succeed because it is selective and vindictive.
Oyedokun said, “If the President, who is fighting corruption, suddenly discovers that people who have stolen are using the proceeds of corruption to fight him, I think it is an admission of failure. Corruption cannot be fought with corruption.
“The President must be able to fish out those fighting him with corruption and ensure they are tried. There are allegations of corruption among those that surround the President and his party members.
“He (Buhari) won’t succeed because he is using corruption to fight corruption. When someone loses a horse and he unknowingly tells the person that stole the horse to help him find the horse, would the owner ever find the horse?”
Also, Babatope a former minister of transportation, accused Buhari of keeping silent on the allegations of corruption against members of his political party.
“It behoves the President to point out those he says are using stolen wealth to fight him. It is not enough to just state that some people are using stolen wealth to fight him. He should mention names and make sure they are prosecuted.
“The anti-corruption war will not succeed because we’ve not defined what corruption is and who and who are guilty of corruption.
“Some people in Buhari’s government are corrupt and he has not tried them. His anti-corruption war is selective and vindictive. Let the President bring out the corrupt elements in his party and use the same yardstick he’s been using for other people on his party’s members.”

THE MATCH THAT PITTED WHITE PLAYERS AGAINST BLACK PLAYERS

In 1979 West Bromwich Albion were looking for an idea for a benefit match for one of their longest serving players, Len Cantello. Somebody, we don't know who, came up with the idea of a match pitting black players against white players. Yes, really: blacks v whites, writes Adrian Chiles.
Warning: this story includes very strong language which some readers may find offensive.
It sounds somewhere between somewhat odd and downright appalling now, doesn't it? At the time, as I recall, it felt a rather progressive thing to do. After all we - I'm a lifelong West Brom fan - led the way in fielding black players. It seemed rather logical to push the envelope a little further and get a whole team together.
They remember the game with pride and great fondness. Batson recalls no controversy. "Nobody ever rang us up and said, 'Do you realise the implication?' Nothing at all. It was fun. In that dressing room it was just great fun." And all the black players I've spoken to about that day talk with feeling about that dressing room. Don't forget, all their lives they'd been outnumbered. Now, for one match only, they had a room of their own.
Having been an obsessed teenage fan in the 70s, I thought I knew all I needed to know about what my heroes went through in that era. How wrong I was. I've spoken to many of the players and I've been reminded of how simply awful it was, and bewilderingly complex too.
The horror of thousands of people chanting racial abuse, with bananas raining down on the pitch, is straightforward enough to appreciate. Although I found the sheer in-your-face loathing quite painful to hear the players recall.
Bob Hazell and George Berry, brought in from Wolverhampton Wanderers for the match, are clear: don't believe any player who says they could shut it out. "You heard everything, trust me. You heard everything," says Hazell with feeling. Berry nods, "Every racial chant, you definitely heard. But only if you took it on board and let it affect you did it become a negative."
And there lay the trick of it - to take the abuse, and see it only as motivation to spur you on. "It made you angry but we learned to channel the anger and motivation," says Regis, "and go, 'Right we're gonna show you how good we are.' And that was our way of dealing with our anger, to think how we could hurt them. You did it with your ability."
The House of Representatives on Thursday defended its decision to buy exotic cars for its 360 members at a period the country’s economy is in recession.
It said lawmakers must have a means of mobility while carrying out oversight duties over Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government.
The House will spend at least N3.6bn across 24 months to complete payment for the luxury vehicles supplied by the Kaduna-based Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited.
The PUNCH had reported exclusively on Monday that the firm had already delivered 28 units of Peugeot 508 series to members in the first batch of 50 cars.
A total of 360 units of the exotic automobile would have been delivered by January 2017.
The Deputy Chairman, Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Jonathan Gaza, while defending the procurement of the cars on Thursday, said that recession would not stop lawmakers from performing their legislative duties.
He argued that in a recession, both the executive and legislative arms of government were expected to work even harder to find urgent solutions to challenges facing the country.
Gaza noted that while working during recession, members were not expected to trek to the premises of the MDAs for oversight duties.
He added,
“In a recession, we will all put on our thinking caps. We are working; these are committees’ cars and they are not the personal property of members.
“When you came here today, how did you come? Did you walk down to this place (National Assembly) from your house?
“If a member is going to visit an agency, will he trek there?
“We need materials, computers, stationery, cars; these are all for work.”
Asked to comment on whether the National Assembly would approve Buhari’s bid to take a loan of $29.96bn, Gaza replied that discussions were ongoing between the two sides.
The lawmaker said no conclusions had been reached.
He also declined to speak categorically on whether the government had begun making releases for the constituency projects of lawmakers.
The constituency projects of senators and members are worth N100bn in the 2016 budget of N6.06tn.
The refusal of the government to fund the projects is reported to be one of the sore points in the relationship between Buhari and the National Assembly.
But, when asked a direct question on the issue, Gaza parried it.
“We don’t release money for constituency projects. Our work is to pass the budget and we passed the 2016 budget. It is the responsibility of the executive to release funds for projects.
“Also, the money is not paid into our pockets, we don’t touch it,” he replied.
