  The  Federal Government has approved N4bn for conditional cash transfers to vulnerable households in Nigeria . During the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan at the United Nations House in Abuja on Thursday,  the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwada, announced the interventions aimed at addressing the country’s deepening humanitarian crisis. This  initiative is expected to support at least 10 million displaced households, primarily targeting the most vulnerable members of society . The cash transfer programme is set to commence in February and continue through April, focusing on alleviating the immediate needs of families affected by displacement, particularly in the Northeast.   Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued the wife of the former Assistant Inspector General, Hakeem Odumosu. The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this on his official X handle on Thursday morning. Adejobi added that the abductors of the former AIG’s wife were killed, and ransom was recovered from the culprits. Adejobi said the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the police operatives and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, for a good job.   The  Sokoto State Hisbah Commission has arrested eight persons for allegedly organising an election to determine the “ best sex performers ” in the state. The event reportedly took place at the Plus Centre along Maiduguri Road in the state capital on Monday evening. While the identities of the organisers remain unknown, some soldiers allegedly claimed that the arrested individuals were affiliated with them. Dr Abubakar Usman Rabah, the commission’s Deputy Commander of Operations, stated in a Facebook video that the arrests followed intelligence reports about the event. “ Upon receiving the information, we deployed plain-clothed personnel to the venue, who confirmed the occurrence of the election. The participants had already conducted two rounds of voting when we intervened ,” Rabah said.
