David Hundeyin Mocks Seun Kuti Over His Arrest

A Nigerian investigative journalist and activist, David Hundeyin, has mocked Seun Kuti, the embattled singer and the youngest son of afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, over his arrest by the Nigeria Police for allegedly physically assaulting a policeman as captured in a viral video.

SaharaReporters had reported that the afrobeat musician was captured in a viral video, allegedly assaulting a policeman on duty, but Seun said that he slapped the police officer because he attempted to kill him and his family members.

Reacting to Seun’s ordeal with the police, David Hundeyin mocked the singer for not supporting the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, for president in the 2023 presidential elections.

According to Hundeyin, Seun opposed Obi who, according to him, would bring real change to Nigeria and the police force. He wrote on his Twitter handle, “Oh, OK, so Seun Kuti is some kind of martyr now. “But please answer this - why did he vehemently oppose the only plausible electoral option that could result in REAL systemic police change? “Or his big genius solution instead of political change was to go about slapping police?”  

Denying that he and Seun were not on the same page as regards activism and advocacy for a better Nigeria, Hundeyin said, “This is why I do not take Aluta people serious. Behind the noise and signaling, it is only hot air that occupies their big empty heads. Bla bla bla fight the power, bla bla bla aluta continua, but your "fight" only boils down to mindless violence against poor people.

“They're really trying to rebrand this igbó-huffing slowpoke with a terminal case of verbal diarrhea as Martin Luther King Jnr.

“Someone that I swear the version of me that existed in JSS2 in 2003 was smarter than he is now.”

“Not every loudmouth is a freedom fighter please.

“We are NOT on the same side. I highlight problems and propose actual solutions.

“Seun Kuti is a daft, mindless nihilist who opposes for the sake of opposition. It's not an intellectual position but a lifestyle choice for him - an aesthetic. A psychological fashion accessory.

“Because instead of doing the politically obvious and morally right thing by making the most popular candidate your flagbearer, you acted like the spoiled imbeciles you are and showed a middle finger to Nigeria,” he added. 

On Tuesday, Hundeyin posted a mugshot of Seun in handcuffs and mocked him for failing to prevent the police from seizing his wife's phone.  

He tweeted, "Turn-by-Turn Nigeria Limited. 

"At least even as I be "small pikin" I was still able to protect my woman. Police did not seize her phone. My children will never see a police mugshot of me in handcuffs on the internet.

"You wey be old papa, na you mosquito dey chop inside Kirikiri.

"Proud to be "small pikin."✌🏿

Reacting to a picture of Seun in handcuffs, he wrote, "Be like Boko haram suspect when dem catch with suicide belt."

The investigative journalist also seems to have a grouse with Seun Kuti over the musician's position on his Oxford University controversy. 

In March, Seun claimed responsibility for the reported termination of Hundeyin's contract with the UK university. 

Hundeyin’s contract was reportedly terminated from the university for behaviour considered to be potentially misogynistic and controversial. 

Cherwell, a weekly student publication produced majorly by Oxford University students, reported that Onyeka Nwelue, a Nigerian author, and David Hundeyin were sent out of the university after organising a “fraudulent” book premiere for Hundeyin’s book on the school's property.

It was alleged that Hundeyin and Nwelue exploited the university community by asking for the payment of £20 for admission to African Studies Centre activities, said to be typically free.

I'm Unaware Police Seized Seun Kuti's Gun Licence -lawyer

Counsel for embattled Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, Mr Olumide Adeyinka-Fusika (SAN), has said he is unaware that the police have seized his client’s gun licence.

The told our correspondent that he saw no link between his client case of assaulting a policeman and a gun licence.

An impeccable source told our correspondent that policemen seized the gun licence during a search of the musician’s house in Ikeja on Tuesday.

“The officers that searched Seun Kuti’s home on Tuesday only found a gun licence, and they seized it. I can confirm that the command is currently working on revoking the licence,” the source said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, however, did not respond to inquiries by our correspondent concerning the incident as of press time, despite phone calls and text messages to his telephone line on Wednesday.

When contacted, Seun Kuti’s lawyer, Olumide-Fusika said, “Regrettably, I’m not aware of this. However, a licence is not a gun. A gun license is a mere piece of paper authorising the bearer or licence to own and have possession of a specified piece of arm (gun).

“Besides, what’s the connection between the allegation of slapping a policeman and police seizure of his gun licence?”

Lamidi Apapa Denies Receiving ₦‎500 Million To Instigate Crisis In Labour Party

The factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Lamidi Apapa has denied receiving N500 million from any quarters in order to scuttle the case of the party at the Presidential Election Petition Court, (PEPC).

Apapa has also asked the presidential candidate of the party in the Feb. 25 Presidential Election, Mr Peter Obi to intervene in the leadership tussle of the party objectively with a view to resolving it.

Briefing newsmen after escaping being lynched by irate youths at the PEPC on Wednesday in Abuja, Apapa denied receiving any money or being influenced by anybody or group to work against the party.

He said that Obi must be unbiased and objective in handling the crisis in order to resolve the leadership tussle.

Apapa decried what happened at the PEPC in the presence of Obi, describing it as disgraceful and a test to Obi’s leadership quality.

The factional chairman said that the leadership crisis would have been put behind them if the presidential candidate had respected an order of the FCT High Court.

The FCT High court had ordered Julius Abure and three others to stop parading themselves as national officers of the party.

Tracing the genesis of the crisis, Apapa said that immediately the order of court was served on the parties, he was unanimously selected to lead the party in acting capacity.

He said that it was wrong for Obi to be according respect to Abure in spite of the order of the court and as a presidential candidate seeking justice from the same court of law.

He implored Obi to be open minded and neutral in order to end the crisis.

In attendance at the briefing were the Deputy National Chairman of the Party in the North, Mr Mike Auta, the National Publicity Secretary, Olufemi Arabambi and the Acting Women Leader, Rukkayat Salihu.

Mustapha Audu Apologised To Peter Obi Over Fake Phone Call

Mustapha Audu, a son of former Kogi State governor, late Prince Abubakar Audu, tendered apology to the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, over a false claim of having telephone conversation with him.

Spokesman of the Obi-Datti Media Office, Mr. Diran Onifade, said this in a statement.

There were reports that Obi called Mr Audu and that during the conversation, when Audu was asking some questions, Obi rudely hung up on him.

But Onifade said nothing of such happened, adding that Audu’s son spoke with an impostor.

“For the benefit of those who have been hyperventilating all day over the false allegation that Peter Obi dropped a phone call on the son of former Governor Abubakar Audu of Kogi, please note that no call took place between the two this morning.

“The young man was brought to the presence of Peter Obi at the court premises today and he was convinced he spoke with a scammer as Peter Obi was still airborne on his way from London at the time the so-called call was said to have happened. The young Audu apologised profusely,” Onifade said.

Gunmen Kidnap NYSC Members In Rivers, 5 Escape - NYSC

Some members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who just passed out from Orientation Camp in Ondo were abducted on Tuesday at about 9pm their way to Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

An eyewitness whose sister-in-law was among the kidnapped corps called into a Port Harcourt based radio station on Wednesday morning to confirm the incident.

He said the Corps members were abducted along the Rumuji axis of the East-West Road in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He said five of the corps members were able to escape and reported at the Rumuji Divisional Police Station.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the lawmakers.

The Spokesperson of the command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said that some of the corps members have been rescued while efforts are on to rescue the remaining corps members.

It would be recalled that Dr. Chidi Lloyd, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area on Monday declared one Nwodi Onuigwe who is suspected to be the kidnap kingpin and cult leader in the are where the Corps members were abducted wanted.

He also announced N1 million prize for any person who give information that could lead to his capture dead or alive.

Lloyd also announced the the stoppage of the salaries of the Emohua Vigilante Service, EMOVIS until the kingpin and his gang members who he alleged are behind illegal oil bunkering, armed robberies, kidnapping and attack on security agencies in the area are arrested.

Lagos Safety Commission Warns Public Against Impersonators

Our attention has been drawn to certain impersonators that portray themselves to be staff or consultants of the The Lagos State Safety Commission. The Commission has warned members of the public not to pay any money into individual accounts other than designated government accounts.

Director-General of the Commission, Lanre Mojola said the warning became imperative in view of reported cases of unscrupulous individuals parading themselves as officials of the Commission, thus extorting unsuspecting members of the public.

According to Mojola, the state government does not operate individual accounts and that anyone asking to pay money into such accounts should know that the agents or officials do not represent the Commission.

The Director General lamented the activities of unscrupulous members of the public carrying out unlawful activities on behalf of Safety Commission and extorting members of the public.

Mojola also said the Commission had put in place stringent measures to curb activities of some compromised consultants, saying that the Commission has had to institute legal actions against impersonators and terminate consultancy of any consultants found wanting. He mentioned that that a particular impersonator was put behind bars recently for a number of years. 

He added that all its consultants have authorized identification cards and must always be worn whenever they were carrying out an audit or inspections.

The Director-General called on members of the public to report promptly to the government activities of unscrupulous officials, consultants and those impersonating its officials through its hotline 07000SAFETY and 08181002233

He said the Commission is responsible for the issuance and withdrawal of overall safety compliance certificates, conducting and reviewing risk assessment reports, conducting investigations on safety issues and making recommendations where necessary and coordinating all government matters relating to the safety of lives and properties in the state.

Others are the formulation of policies, providing advisory and being the regulatory body on safety-related issues; coordinating and monitoring the activities of relevant organizations involved in safety services in the State; appointing consultants when required to enable the commission carry out its functions under the provision of the law and foster and maintain effective interaction, networking, and collaboration on safety issues with relevant government agencies.

Dolores Aveiro Reacts To Using Witchcraft On Georgina Rodriguez

Dolores Aveiro, the mother of football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, has reacted to reports claiming she used witchcraft on her son’s girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo and the Spanish-Argentine model Rodriguez have been in a relationship since 2016 when they met in Madrid.

They currently live together in Saudi Arabia after the 38-year-old superstar terminated his contract at Manchester United and joined Al Nassr in January.

Recently, a Portuguese newspaper had claimed that Aveiro deployed witchcraft to separate the couple.

It reported that Aveiro was against Ronaldo’s relationship with Georgina.

Reacting she denounced the report, describing it as ‘false, slanderous and even macabre’.

She revealed her lawyers have been informed to get her name cleared from the allegation for the sake of her family.  

“I affirm that today, May 16, 2023, I activated my lawyers to clear my good name for my family and for what they represent in my life,”she wrote on Instagram.

She pointed out that such news would not go down well with some of her grandchildren who are already reading and listening to people and criticisms.

“And that is why I will not give up until this newspaper proves everything that was written today,” she said.
