Victor Osimhen Notches 100th Career Goal Faster Than Lionel Messi And Ronaldo

Victor Osimhen scored his 100th career goal on Friday night during Napoli's 2-0 win against Sassulo, becoming one of the five fastest players to achieve the feat.

Scoring in just his 197th game, the Nigerian has racked up his century faster than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and in incredible style too, striking the ball past the keeper from an impossible angle next to the byline.

For comparison, the Argentinian World Cup winner scored his century after 210 games, while Ronaldo, the world's greatest goalscorer, bagged his ton after 301 games.

After making his professional debut for Wolfsburg in 2017, Osimhen spent time at RSC Charleroi and Lille, before moving to Napoli in 2020, where he would score 47 goals for the Serie A side in just 85 games.

Eighteen of those strikes would come this season, with the 24-year-old now sitting six goals clear at the top of the Serie A Golden Boot ladder, while his club side aren't doing too bad either - topping the Italian first division thanks to his goalscoring form.

In fact, you could say he has been pivotal in Napoli's rise to the top, scoring in all seven of Napoli's previous league games, helping them go undefeated since the first week of January.

His prolific start to his career means he now ranks as the third fastest player to score 100 career goals.

But two big names stand in front of him, one is World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who achieved his century after 180 games.

And the other, who leads the tally, is none other than Manchester City's Erling Haaland, who's scoring spree at Borussia Dortmund, RB Salzburg and Molde helped him to surpass his ton after a mere 146 matches.

Osimhen's record breaking feats, meanwhile, mean he'll no doubt have increased his value, but will also now be a number one target for many clubs around Europe.

One of those is Manchester United, who 'are targeting a move' for the Napoli forward later in the summer, which could see Erik ten Hag's side bid a whopping £107m to secure his services.

Reactions As JJ Omojuwa Posts Peter Obi's Campaign Poster

Was Omojuwa hacked?

Twitter influencer, JJ Omojuwa has been trending on social media after posting a campaign paraphernalia of Peter Obi on his Twitter handle.

Recall that JJ Omojuwa was one of the arrowheads of the Buhari campaign in 2015, advocating for good governance after almost every Nigerian believed that Jonathan had failed.

He became so influential in that period as people saw him as patriotic and wanting the best for Nigeria.

Now, fast forward to 2023 elections when just like 2015, almost every Nigerian agrees that Buhari has failed woefully which has made his party unattractive to most voters and coupled with the party presenting Tinubu as her presidential candidate, people expected Omojuwa to be on the side of the people like he was in 2015 but he unfortunately descended into rhetorics for most of the times and outright attack on Peter Obi some other times.

Because of the above, majority of netizens dismissed him for standing with those they believe to the oppressors of Nigerians.

But Omojuwa held his guns and insisted he cannot be bullied into supporting Peter Obi.

So, it was a surprise when he posted the campaign flier of Peter Obi.

People are wondering what happened.

Pregnant Woman Dies In Kano Hospital Over Payment Alerts Delay

pregnant woman in Kano, Shema’u Sani Labaran, has died in the Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital over alleged negligence from doctors as a result of the new naira policy crisis.

The late woman’s husband, Malam Bello Fancy, said her death was as a result of delay in transfer made to the bank and that the doctors didn’t attend to his wife for more than three hours.

Recall that the Kano State Government warned marketers, supermarkets and the public against rejecting old naira notes in the state, saying it would shut down and revoke the licence of any business enterprise found in the act.

However, it was gathered from residents that some institutions, including government-owned, filling stations and marketers have been rejecting the old notes, including hospitals that battle with emergencies.

Speaking to Freedom Radio, Malam Fancy, said he took his wife to the hospital when she was about to deliver, but that the hospital rejected his old naira notes and also had no POS, hence that they asked him to deposit the money in their account.

He said although he transferred the money and got debited, the doctors on duty didn’t touch his wife as they said they must see the alert in their account, which took almost three hours.

My wife walked into the hospital from our house, but before they received the alert, the pains had doubled and she was already bleeding. Still, they didn’t touch her until after three hours when they received the alert.

“After they admitted her, they discovered that she could not deliver by herself; that she must undergo an operation. I agreed and paid the money; still through transfer. It also delayed for an additional three hours before they received the alert and operated on my wife. Shockingly, the baby was brought out dead and the mother also died.”

However, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Rahila Garba, denied the allegation, saying the claim was not the true representation of the incident.

But other patients in the hospital confirmed the incident, saying they too encountered problems with payment of hospital bills which delayed services.

Meanwhile, speaking with City & Crime about the incident, the spokesman of the state’s Hospital Management Board, Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi, said they received information about the incident and that they would commence an investigation.

He said, “We are not certain about the cause of the incident, we just got the information. But we have commenced an investigation into the matter.”

Peter Obi Free To Visit My Palace - Oba Of Lagos

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu has described the Labour Party, LP, Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a ‘complete gentleman’ who is free to visit him at his palace anytime he wishes to.

This came on the backdrop of allegations by a female supporter of the Labour party candidate who had accused the monarch of rejecting the moves by Peter Obi to visit him at his Iduganran palace, Lagos Island.

Akiolu, spoke when the former Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP, Abiodun Alabi paid him a courtesy visit in his place in the company of the new Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa.

The revered monarch, while declaring that he has a cordial relationship with the Igbos in Lagos, added that the late President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief George Obiozor, was his close friend.

According to Akiolu, “Nobody has written to me that any presidential candidate is coming to visit me.

“If anybody writes to me, I cannot deny them but as far as Peter Obi is concerned, whom I see as a complete gentleman, he has not approached me.

“I was always with the late Ohanaeze President, Obiazor, every weekend when he was alive and anytime I travelled to New York, he would always come to pick me up at the airport.

So, I have no grudge against any Igbo man. I respect people and I don’t fear anybody,” Akiolu said.

He commended the former Lagos CP, Alabi for his performances during his tenure and urged the new CP to take the welfare of the police under him seriously and be nice to the people.

“Try to hold your religion. If you are a Christian or Muslim, practice your religion and look after the welfare of the people under you.

“I don’t take nonsense but I don’t have reservoirs of knowledge. From what I know about you, you will do well.

“Anything you do, do it with honesty. What you don’t want the citizens to do to you, don’t do it to them. I am giving you the assurance that we will cooperate with you,” Akiolu told the new CP.

Earlier, the Owhohunwa had told Akiolu he was at his palace to seek his royal blessings and professional advice.

According to him, “I have come for the professional aspect. You retired from the police service at one of the highest levels.

“The rich knowledge we can get from you is vital for my performance and I want to appeal to you to consider me as your son both from the traditional perspective and professional perspective and accept me with open hands.

“Whenever, I come, whenever I have challenges in the course of my duty, I should have a father to turn to. I will work to secure stable security for Lagos State, ” he said.

We Will Curse You If You Betray Us: Wike Tells Rivers PDP Assembly Candidates

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has threatened to deal with the National and State Assembly candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state if they betray him and join those in Abuja, the Atiku Abubakar camp.

Wike made the threat when he spoke during the state Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally in Obio/Akpor Local Government of Rivers State, the last campaign rally of the PDP in the state.

He said, “All the other candidates, the Senatorial candidates, my Deputy Chairman, Doctor Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, Chief Allwell Onyeso and Barinada Mpigi, and all the House of Reps candidates and the Assembly candidates, let me tell you people, if any of them like, let them go to Abuja and misbehave, we will teach them lesson as we are teaching these other people now.

“I want to sound it clear, all of them are listening to me, if they are not here, they are watching the television. If you follow this betrayal, we will place a colurse on you and you will suffer the way they are suffering, so if you have the mind to do that, be very very careful”.

Wike has been at loggerheads with some PDP chieftains in the state, following their resolve to support the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, after Wike lost to him at the party’s primaries last year.

Banks Begin Collection Of Old Naira Notes Despite CBN’s Denial Of Directive

Commercial banks have started collecting the old N500 and N1,000 naira notes from their customers.

The development comes despite the rebuttal of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that it did not direct banks to collect the old naira notes from citizens.

Meanwhile, in contradiction to the apex bank’s position, checks by TheCable showed that the cash return portal of the CBN directed people with old N500 and old N1,000 notes below N500,000 to go to their bank to make the deposit.

To ascertain the state of things, TheCable visited banks in different parts of Lagos on Saturday.

Long queues were seen in front of banks as customers attempted to gain access into the banking halls.

At Access Bank in Megida bus stop, Ayobo, a bank official was calling out the names of customers from a sheet of paper.

Once a customer’s name is called, he/she is allowed to proceed into the bank.

The bank official said they would stop attending to customers by 2pm.

Meanwhile, some customers outside the bank lamented that they were unable to generate a reference number from the CBN portal.

“I have been here since 10am. This is almost 2pm. The CBN portal is saying validation error. I can’t generate the reference code so I can’t go in,” a customer, simply identified as John, told TheCable.

At branches of Access Bank and First Bank in Iyana Ipaja, customers were allowed to deposit their old notes.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) branches in Ikorodu and Airport Road were also attending to customers.

At a Sterling Bank branch in Ikorodu, TheCable observed that only those who have generated the CBN reference number were being allowed in.

A security officer at a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch in the area said the bank has stopped attending to people for the day.

“We will open again on Monday,” he said.

At the time of visit (2pm), a small group of customers at a Access Bank branch in Ikorodu were waiting to get attended to under a canopy outside the bank.

“They opened in the morning to collect the notes. But now they’ve closed,” a customer said.

Another customer said they were waiting to see if the bank workers would allow them in or tell them when to come back.

TheCable observed most of the customers were trying to generate the CBN reference number on their phones — a prerequisite for entering the bank.
