LASU, UNILAG, LAUTECH, LASUED & LASUSTECH Students Endorse Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu
Students of higher institutions in Lagos State have endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term.
The students, who came from Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), among others, converged at the Onikan Stadium and gave a carnival-like endorsement to the governor and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
They also conferred the ‘Five Star General Students Aluta’ title on Governor Sanwo-Olu. National Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ishaq Giwa, described Sanwo-Olu as being super active in governance.
He also thanked Special Adviser to the governor on education, Tokunbo Wahab, for supporting the students over the years.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who expressed delight over the endorsement, said the gathering was about the future of the students to ensure their well-being.
He said: “I thank you for your leadership that has put this together. I want to thank you for coming to validate all that you have been doing in your schools. We are just starting, the agenda for a greater Lagos is rising in our education, in our tertiary institutions and our secondary schools, and it will touch everyone.”
The governor recalled that during the last strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), none of the state institutions downed tools because his administration takes good care of students and lecturers.
He added: “When there was a strike and the country was shut down, you didn’t lose one day.
You were working and you were working very well. We have moved from one university to three universities. I handed the biggest student arcade in the whole country to you. Today, we are giving additional buses to you. We want your life to be meaningful. This endorsement, we will not take it for granted. We will support you and give you the enabling environment to thrive.
“What we are doing here today is about your future; it is about giving the opportunity to you, you have no other country, it is for us to create an ambience so that your future will be better. That is why you want to support us.
“We want to compete with the world. LASU is the best in the country. The other two will also compete as the best in the world,” the governor added.
Popular singer, Abolore Adegbola aka 9ce, one of the several artistes who graced the occasion, said he was at the event not to play, but to endorse Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu.
“I am not here to sing. Vote for APC, vote Asiwaju, vote Sanwo-Olu for you to have a better life,” he said.
Naira Swap: Atiku Demands ‘slight’ Extension, Says Nigerians Discomforted
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has demanded a slight extension to the January 31st deadline given by the Central Bank of Nigeria for the swapping of the old naira notes for the new ones in commercial banks of the country.
Atiku said the pain caused by this action is one not intended for the initiative.
The former Vice President posted a video, on Thursday, titled, “My position on the CBN January 31st deadline on the new Naria notes” on his verified social media handles to express his view on the challenges faced by Nigerians in meeting up with the deadline announced by the country’s apex bank.
While applauding the monetary conversion policy as a worldwide practice, Atiku stressed that the deadline is unfit and should be slightly adjusted.
The PDP presidential candidate said, “The ongoing policy of the CBN to redesign the naira notes has generated wide reactions across the country and beyond.
“This exercise is a worldwide practice and nothing new with it especially as the January 31st deadline draws closer.
“A great number of Nigerians out of good conscience have expressed apprehension about how the policy and the deadline will make life difficult for them.
“I’m also aware of the challenges farmers and artisans in remote areas go through in moving cash to the commercial banks for exchange.
Speaking further, Atiku said he is compelled to align his position with other Nigerians for a slight extension of the naira notes swapping.
“The deadline is going to cause heavy discomfort for Nigerians. It will be magnanimous for the Federal Government and the regulatory body to ease the burden of the people while we can continue to sensitise the public on the imperative of mobile banking policy.
“It is important for the CBN to consider an extension for the public to swap their old notes thereby reducing the financial consequences on these vulnerable citizens, I believe that such painful experience is not the intention behind the initiative, he added.
BBTitans: Yemi Cregx And Miracle OP Fight For Khosi's Attention
BBTitans house witnessed another fight between two housemates. And again, the two housemates involved in the fight are of Nigerian origin.
Yemi Cregx and Miracle OP finally set it off in a heated argument after the two seem to have been fighting for Khosi’s attention.
Earlier in the week, Khosi had returned to Yemi Cregx and even slept in his bed even after kicking off another ship with Miracle.
On Thursday at the second pool party, Yemi Cregx was visibly seen exchanging public displays of affection with Blue Aiva and Khosi, despite being with Miracle OP, wasn’t going to allow it to fly.
After the pool party was winding down, she met with Blue Aiva to express her dissatisfaction with her kissing and romancing her man.
Following the moment, Khosi met with Yemi Cregx to explain her disappointment and inquired why Yemi Cregx was embarrassing and slighting her with Blue Aiva. The two had a long discussion until after dinner. During their discussion, Miracle OP interrupted saying he needed to have time with his partner and much later, Yemi Cregx walked to him to express his disappointment saying he felt insulted by Miracle, whom he had no issues with.
However, on Friday night, the two who maintained a distance from one another all day went all into it in the wee hours of Saturday morning when they had a shouting match and heated argument.

Osun Judgement: Governor Adeleke Addresses Osun People, Says Claim of Over-Voting Unfounded
••••Writes INEC over Appeal against Judgement
The Executive Governor of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has addressed the people of Osun state, restating his rejection of the Tribunal judgement and affirming his appeal to higher court.
In an address to the people of the state, Governor Adeleke observed the discrepancies in the judgement of the Tribunal Chairman, describing the outcome as "miscarriage of justice.
"My good people of Osun state, we have all heard the split judgement of the governorship election tribunal. Two members of the Tribunal delivered two opposing judgements, the Chairman and the member one. The member 2, did not deliver any judgment, she abstained.
"The Chairman's judgment affirmed the claim of over-voting, while the Member One's judgment agreed with our position as captured by the BVAS machines which is the primary source of accreditation data of true accreditation on the day of the Election.
"The reality of my election as the Governor of Osun State is captured in the member one's judgement. The claim of over-voting in the Chairman's judgment was unfounded. This was clearly a miscarriage of Justice. Based on the above, there was no majority judgment.
"My good people of Osun state, I am still your Governor. I have the right of appeal on the Chairman's judgement and I have instructed my Lawyers accordingly.
"You gave me your Mandate, our election remains valid and by the Grace of God we will triumph at last. I call on you all to remain calm and go about your normal activities, peacefully. Please Remain Law abiding.
"We have strong faith in God and in our judiciary", the State Governor concluded in his second state address.
Meanwhile, the counsels to the state governor have filed appeal against the Tribunal judgement.
The counsels have also written the electoral commission intimating it of the appeal and seeking non-implementation of the judgement until the determination of the Appeal.

INEC To Test BVAs With Mock Accreditation Exercise
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday in Abuja revealed that a mock accreditation exercise would be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 in 436 polling units nationwide to test the functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the general election.INEC’s National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held at the national headquarters of the commission, with the purpose of putting finishing touches to the preparations for the 2023 general election. He said 12 polling units had been designated in each state of the federation and four in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the equality of the country’s 109 Senatorial Districts for the exercise.
Yakubu noted that a comprehensive list of the polling units, including their names and PU Code numbers, as well as their distribution by State, Senatorial District, Local Government and Registration Area (Ward) would be uploaded on the Commission’s website. The chairman informed the RECs that movement of materials for the election to various locations nationwide was being concluded. He added that training of officials would commence shortly, while ongoing consultations with stakeholders would be intensified.
He further explained that critical service providers in the area of transportation had reassured the commission of their commitment to efficient logistics for the movement of materials and personnel to various locations while the security agencies had reaffirmed their readiness for the election.
According to the INEC Chairman, the Commission is aware that there are a few issues to be addressed: “One of them is the ongoing collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs). The Commission is encouraged by the determination of registered voters nationwide to collect their PVCs and the actual level of collection so far.”
Yakubu stated further: “For instance, in Lagos State, which has the highest number of registered voters in the country, the Commission delivered 940,200 PVCs from the recent voter registration exercise (June 2021 to July 2022) for both new registrants and requests for transfer and replacement of cards.“As of Thursday 26th January 2023, 839,720 PVCs had been collected representing 89.3% of the total figure.
“This meeting with RECs will consider reports from other states of the Federation and the Commission will not hesitate to consider additional measures to ensure that all citizens have ample opportunity to collect their PVCs ahead of the general election.”Yakubu said: “As you are already aware, the Commission has taken delivery of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for the election. We have also dutifully tested each machine in our offices nationwide to ensure its functionality.
“The next step is to conduct field tests across the country involving actual voters. For this reason, and in readiness for nationwide deployment, the Commission is conducting a mock accreditation of voters similar to what was done ahead of the recent Ekiti and Osun State Governorship elections.”The chairman appealed to registered voters in the affected polling units to appear on the scheduled date with their PVCs for the mock exercise.
Yakubu noted that doing so would help to reassure the public of the robustness of the system and to strengthen our processes ahead of the general election. He said Civil society organisations, the media and the general public are welcome to observe the process. The chairman said at the end of the exercise, the 436 BVAS machines involved would be reconfigured before they are deployed for the general election.
