Sagay: Obasanjo Is A Hypocrite, He Should Stop Meddling In Election Matters

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) in this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, speaks on developments in the country ahead of the 2023 general elections. He also shares his thoughts on the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other issues. Excerpts:

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his recent letter addressed to Nigerian youths endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi. Do you think his opinion will have any impact on the choices Nigerians will make when the times comes to elect the next president?

I think Obasanjo is a hypocrite in many ways. He tries to show off as he was the best thing that ever happened to Nigeria, even though under his regime, we had a lot of setbacks. While he was in office, he himself wanted a third term which would have been a breach of our democratic practice and renewal. Another thing I have always said about Obasanjo is that he doesn’t control himself. He is a retired Head of State and very well respected elder statesman who is on telephone terms with the presidency. If he has anything to say, he can always call him and discuss with him.

As for his letter on who is the best person to vote for, he has gone beyond that at his level. He should just keep quiet and let Nigerians decide. He should not be partisan. He should be above all that. I feel he is lowering himself to the level of politicians by doing what he is doing. We have former leaders like Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar. They don’t do what Obasanjo is doing. They all respect themselves. I think Obasanjo should not think that he knows everything and his opinion is the best. He should stop behaving as if he is a hanging president of Nigeria which he is not. So, if find his recent actions reprehensible and he should show some restraint in his public attitude because he is a very senior person in this country.

He also said he never wanted third term and could have gotten it if he wanted. Do you agree with this?

That is not true. He wanted third term and did everything to get it but he failed. The national assembly refused his agenda. We all watched it on television then when it happened. The president of the Senate then, Ken Nnamani put the question to the senators on the amendment of the constitution but not a single person supported it. So, Obasanjo should stop trying to rewrite history. We have forgiven him. He is a man I have some respect for particularly the way he is still acting, not in terms of politics but as a human being. He travels a lot on election monitoring and peace mission across the world. I admire him for that but let him stop interfering in Nigerian politics. He has done his own and he is gone. It is about time he allows Nigerians to carry on without his interference.

Pictures Of Remembrance Day Events From Across Nigeria

 Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari

We will continue to honour and celebrate our Armed Forces as the pride of our country. Our faith in them remains unshaken. We salute their unparalleled patriotism, courage, loyalty & commitment, in the face of the daunting challenges of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

On this #ArmedForcesRemembranceDay, I again ask business enterprises in Nigeria to consider appreciating the sacrifice of the members of our Armed Forces, serving and retired, by extending support to them in the form of discounts and rebates for goods and services rendered.

R’bonney Gabriel Crowned Miss Universe 2022

R'Bonney Gabriel from the United States was crowned the 71st Miss Universe on Saturday night.

Gabriel, who last year became the first Filipino-American to win Miss USA, took the crown ahead of Amanda Dudamel from Venezuela and Andreína Martínez from the Dominican Republic.

The pageant was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, with 84 women from around the world competing for the crown.

Saturday night was the last day of the competition, with eliminations narrowing down the number of finalists until the last two remained.

When Gabriel entered the Top 5, she was asked, "Miss Universe recently made an inclusive change allowing mothers and married women to compete this year. What's another change you'd like to see and why?"

Gabriel responded that she hoped the contest organizers would increase the candidate age limit.

"For me, I would like to see an age increase because I am 28 years old. And that is the oldest age to compete. And I think it's a beautiful thing. My favorite quote is 'if not now, then when?' Because as a woman, I believe age does not define us. It's not tomorrow, it's not yesterday -- but it's now. The time is now," she said.

Houston-native Gabriel is a model, fashion designer, and sewing instructor who prioritizes the environment in her work.

Earlier in the pageant, Gabriel donned a red-orange cape inspired by a rising phoenix with the maxim "if not now, then when," which she had dyed herself. The words take inspiration from her father's advice to act on goals, dreams and desires.

In the final question and answer segment of the competition, the Top 3 contenders were asked how they would work to demonstrate Miss Universe as an empowering and progressive organization if they won the title.
Gabriel said she would use the platform to be a "transformational leader" and emphasized her passion as a force for good in the fashion industry by cutting down on pollution and using recycled materials in making clothing pieces.

"I teach sewing classes to women that have survived from human trafficking and domestic violence. And I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community, and use your unique talent to make a difference," Gabriel said.

"We all have something special and when we plant those seeds for other people in our life, we transform them and we use that as a vehicle for change."

This year's pageant was organized for the first time by JKN Global Group PCL, a Thailand-based media distribution company, after tycoon and transgender rights advocate Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip bought the Miss Universe Organization for $20 million in October.

Jakkaphong has been outspoken about her experiences as a transgender woman, and is also the first woman owner of the pageant.
She made an appearance onstage to award the ImpactWayv Challenge winner to Thailand's Anna Sueangam-iam, honoring her commitments for social good.

Miss Thailand had in the preliminary rounds of the pageant made waves in a dress made of soda tabs -- a tribute to her humble beginnings and her parents' work as garbage collectors.

Yomi Casual's Wife, Grace Reacts To Claim Of Him Being 'Gay'

Grace Makun, wife of popular Nigerian fashion stylist, Yomi Makun popularly known as Yomi Casual, has reacted to claim of her husband being gay, IGBERETV reports.

In an Instagram post she shared, Grace told those sending her "'DMs concerning the very disrespectful assumption and the indirect rumours" to stop.

Grace wrote;

"I want to address those of you tagging and sending me DMs concerning a very disrespectful assumption and the indirect rumours, orchestrated against my husband's personality and my Household to PLEASE STOP.

Even if most of you enjoy seeing others go down, i think it is too early in the year to subscribe to all these 'super stories' designed to work on your minds, and create unnecessary trends and engagement.
With the permission of my husband, I am daring the so-called blogger and anyone of you who insinuate to know too much to bring out proofs that confirm Yomi “gay” as speculated without fact by your devilish camps within 24 hours.

We all know that the Western fashion world is engulfed with such traits and it’s stigmatizing but it is not enough to tag him what he is not even planning to become or be in another world. It is also not a crime for a guy to look good , represent his brand and pay quality attention to himself. It shouldn't be translated to being gay simply because the majority of men out there pay less attention to their looks and suddenly his appearance and amiable characteristics represents name callings ? STOP WITH THE DEFAMATION ALREADY .

Having said that, our family is intact without any form of chaos or a single reason for my husband and i to drag ourselves anywhere over a NON EXISTING issue. STOP tagging me & go ask your favourite blogger to save you all the stress and suspense by unleashing his or her show of shame within 24 hours or die for making you all waste your hard earn money on data for no reason .
More so, to those of you who love gossip, you can continue to spread your drama and lies as fans of negativity until being a victim of it would lead you into knowing how much it hurts and destroy people’s peace and joy .

Beyond all the lies, we shall continue to be guided on the path of truth, love, and respect for each other. Any blogger or individual who would not stop spreading fabricated and hurtful news about this man i have known in the last 5 years of marriage and for 13 years of friendship.

I pray for calamity to come upon them all one by one in JESUS NAME. AMEN"
