Ngige: Why I Can’t Support Any Presidential Candidate

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has explained why he cannot support or campaign for any presidential candidate out of the four frontrunners for the seat of presidency.

Ngige revealed his reason on Tuesday at his hometown in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, while distributing gifts by his foundation to people in the area.

Ngige, an All Progressives Party member, said all four presidential candidates are his friends having worked with them at one point or the other, therefore he would not be able to pick any among them to support.

The minister described Peter Obi of the Labour Party as his brother, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, as his good friends.

He therefore urged Nigerians to vote for the right candidate who would be able to work for them after a critical evaluation of their manifestos and antecedents.

He said, “The four frontrunners are good candidates with cognate experience in governance at the federal and state levels.

“They are my friends and they are well known to me. They have worked with me in one way or the other before now.

“Peter Obi of Labour Party is my brother, his local government is next to mine here my successor and everything. I know him too well. I know his capacity.

“Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party was at the helm of affairs in the country when I was kidnapped as a sitting governor. He was acting for Mr. President who was away in Maputo at that time. He ordered my reinstatement. We sat together in the National Economic Council which he is the Chairman. We formed the Action Congress with Asiwaju.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu of APC is also my good friend and political ally. He was very supportive during our trying times as governor. We formed AC together. We worked together in ACN and I became the lone opposition senator in the eastern region under the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria. He is not somebody I don’t know.

“Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of NNPP is my friend too. I knew him as deputy speaker of the federal House of Representatives under Agunwa Anaekwe in 1991 as Speaker. We were in APC so, I know him.

“For me, let the Nigerian people vote right. Let Nigerians look at them and their manifestos and vote, according to what is right for the country.

“I don’t think I will go around campaigning for candidate A or B or C. I won’t do that. It is not my stock in trade. I don’t jump from party to party. But besides, I have some conscience and I am going to protect my conscience and make sure that I don’t hurt it.”

The minister had indicated interest in contesting the APC presidential primaries and was said to have purchased the Expression of Interest Form before withdrawing from the exercise.

Taliban 'Worried About Andrew Tate' As They Ask For His Freedom

Members of the Taliban are "worried about Andrew Tate" and are "asking us if he's free yet," according to Sameera Khan, a former Miss New Jersey turned "anti-woke" journalist.

Khan said she took part in a "Twitter space with the Afghan Taliban" to "discuss the detainment of Andrew Tate", an American-British influencer who was arrested in Romania on December 29, along with his brother and two Romanian nationals, and charged with human trafficking.

Romanian prosecutors allege the Tate brothers coerced six women into producing pornography, with the alleged victims facing "acts of physical violence and mental coercion." One of those arrested was also charged with rape, though their identify has not been disclosed.

On Saturday, Khan tweeted: "We are hosting a Twitter space with the Afghan Taliban to discuss the detainment of Andrew Tate.

"They are worried about Andrew Tate and they are asking us if he's free yet.

"They say westerners need Andrew Tate because we are oppressed by feminists."

In a separate tweet, she added "#FREETOPG," calling for Tate to be released, with 'TopG' being a nickname used for the influencer by some of his supporters.

British journalist Otto English tweeted a screenshot from the Twitter space, showing some of the attendees, adding: "This actually happened."

The Twitter space was called "heart emoji Andrew Tate heart emoji, followed by "w/ Taliban."

Ambassador Malami-Yabo Resigns From APC, Joins PDP

The immediate past Nigeria Ambassador to Jordan and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Faruk Malami Yabo, has left the party for the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Malami announced his defection at a PDP rally in Yabo Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State on Wednesday. He was joined by many of his supporters, who also decamped to the PDP.

He described his defection as a “homecoming”.

“I have always been a PDP family and my defection today is like someone returning back home.

“I thank everyone who is part of this movement and I promise to help the party emerge victorious in the forthcoming general election,” he said.

Receiving Malami, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State commended the former envoy for joining the PDP.

Also speaking, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Sokoto, Sa’idu Umaru, commended the people of Yabo local government for coming out in large numbers to receive the new party members.

You're Acting Like A Failed Tik Tok Comedian' - Atiku Campaign Bombs Wike

The Presidential Campaign office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike of acting like a failed Tik Tok comedian in the way he has been criticising the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The campaign organisation said this while reacting to comments by Wike on the endorsement of Peter Obi of Labour Party by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Wike had mocked Atiku for his failure to get Obasanjo who was his principal when he was the vice president of Nigeria to endorse his 2023 presidential ambition.

The Rivers State Governor who is leading a group of five PDP governors opposed to the presidential ambition of Atiku under a coalition called G5 had been critical of Atiku who defeated him in the battle for the presidential ticket of the party.

But as if saying ‘enough is enough’ Atiku Campaign, in a statement tagged: “Wike’s Nonsensical Gaffe,” said Wike, who, according to it, was once a shining light in PDP party has become a laughing stock.

In the statement authored by Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant, Public Communication to Atiku, Phrank Shaibu, the Campaign Organisation said Wike dances like a village masquerade on live television everyday with the same boring moves in his criticism of Atiku.

He acts like a failed Tik Tok comedian desperately trying to amuse Nigerians with the same platitudes just because he lost the primary and also failed to emerge as the vice presidential candidate of the PDP,” Atiku Campaign said in the statement in which it quoted Proverbs 14:17 in the Holy Bible.

His constant weeping is like the blubbering of an infant taken off his mother’s breast. Wike’s cacophonous cry of hurt and inconsolable thrashing will never end even if the proverbial breast is put back in his mouth,” the PDP candidate’s campaign said.

“At every turn of event, Atiku’s campaign maintained that Wike comes forth with new episodes of his dramatic performances, noting that what is common to all his acts is that his vile verbiage and intemperate vituperations are symptomatic of a pathetically disruptive mind with a deep character flaw.

“In his latest attempt to mock Waziri Atiku Abubakar after former President Olusegun Obasanjo decided to endorse former Governor Peter Obi, Wike again shot himself in the foot.

“According to the cantankerous and loquacious governor, the decision of Obasanjo to support Obi is evidence that Atiku is unfit for the presidency.

“Going by Wike’s flawed logic, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s refusal to support his Vice President, William Ruto, meant that Ruto was unfit for office. The great people of Kenya, however, do not think in a flawed manner like Wike,” Atiku’s office said.

It also noted that President Muhammadu Buhari did not support Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to be his successor.

“If we bring it closer to Rivers State, it means Wike’s deputy is incompetent hence his decision to anoint Siminialayi Fubara, as his successor. In fact Wike’s domineering attitude has made his deputy redundant, hence no one even knows who she is.

Contrary to assertion by Wike, the Campaign Organisation that Atiku was publicly endorsed by his principal in 2019 when Obasanjo decided to support him.

“When has the lack of support of an ex-president ever translated to fitness of an office?

“Finally, let me state that our decorous demeanour belong to us – they are not dictated by whether someone is intemperate towards us. We will hit back if we have to, but God forbid that we will ever descend to the level of the gutter that some people live in. Wike really needs to grow up and respect the office he holds,” the PDP presidential candidate’s office stated.

Court Stops DSS, Police, CCB From Investigating INEC Chairman Over Asset Declaration

*Declares assets form valid

by Kunle Olasanmi

The plans to scuttle the 2023 general election by removing the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, from office, failed on Wednesday, as the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sitting in Garki, quashed the allegations of false asset declaration against him.

The Court went ahead to bar security agencies from investigating Prof. Yakubu over his valid assets declaration.

In the Originating Summons marked FCT/HC/GAR/CV/47/2022 by Somadina Uzoabaka against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Claimant sought, among other things, an order of mandatory injunction directing and compelling the INEC Chairman to recuse, excuse and exclude himself and or step down as the Chairman of INEC pending the investigation and consideration of the various allegations against him by the various law enforcement agencies.

The plaintiff also sought an order of court stopping the INEC Chairman from holding or assuming any public office for a period of 10 years.

Prof. Yakubu, who in his response to the allegations, furnished the court with several exhibits to show the sources of money for the purchase of the properties which the plaintiff alleged were illegally acquired and insisted that his asset declarations were validly done.

In the judgment, Justice M. A. Hassan found that the declaration of assets by Prof. Yakubu was lawful, valid and in compliance with the law and that he cannot be investigated by any of the security agencies listed by the Claimant that should all investigate him.

The judge declined to grant any of the 14 prayers of the claimant, declaring that the INEC Chairman cannot be removed over fabricated allegations of false asset declaration.

The judge, therefore, dismissed the claims of the Claimant and allowed the Counter-claim of the INEC Chairman.
